Painting Again

March 23rd, 2009

Even though I have been making mosaics for almost 10 years now, my paint brush has never been far from me. My recent inspiration to begin painting again began over the winter. Little by little I have been working on some small pieces. They are almost ready to be listed in my other shop Assorted Olives.

Acceptable Wedding Gifts

March 22nd, 2009

Marriage as the base of our community and as an institution has changed considerably from what it was when our grandparents got married, even from when our parents got married. Attitudes, concepts and the way family, careers, equality and even gay relationships are perceived has led to a change in the structure of society: due to several experiences people are getting married later in life, young naive or inexperienced couples getting divorced more often, marrying more than once, and living longer. If we compare this scenario to the one we saw only a few decades ago, couples would get married and set up home together, now usually people live together first, or it is a second or third marriage where two homes are being merged into one.

There were other questions I wondered about. How did these creative souls begin their journey as artists? What do they love the most about creating? I begin my series of featured artists today with Rachel, of RachelLovesPeace.etsy.com.

Soul Pancake Challenge 3/18

March 19th, 2009

Today’s challenge on www.SoulPancake.com was centered around the idea that if you write something down, “you have a seven-times-better chance of actually making it happen.” They challenged people to take out their Sharpie markers, write what they really want to happen on their hand and take a picture. (See the actual post here.) By the time I submitted my photo, there were 80 other posts before me. It was very cool to take a minute and look through what others had written and the artistic ways they chose to capture the words in their photos.

Mosaic Chaos

March 4th, 2009

Productive days rock. It’s the aftermath that can be difficult to deal with. Today I found myself surrounded by tiny bits of stained glass, shards, ripped zip lock bags, plastic containers, glue spills and just a huge mess. I knew I was losing control of my work space around noon, and despite my best efforts I could not get a handle on it.
